Subathra
Licensed Counsellor, MindNexis
Qualifications & Professional Registration
Subathra Devi is a Registered Counsellor with the Lembaga Kaunselor Malaysia (LKM) and a Registered Psychologist with the Psychological Society of Malaysia (PSIMA). She holds a Master of Counselling and a Bachelor of Management (Hons) in Psychology and is currently pursuing her PhD in Education. She has also undertaken professional training in areas including Expressive Arts Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), suicide prevention, Mental Health First Aid and psychological assessment.
Subathra believes that every individual experiences and expresses emotions differently, and that therapy should be adapted to the person rather than expecting the person to fit a particular therapeutic approach. Her practice is grounded primarily in a Person-Centred approach, creating a safe, empathetic and non-judgmental environment where clients can explore their experiences at their own pace.
She integrates CBT-informed, Solution-Focused and Expressive Arts approaches according to each client’s needs. She has a particular interest in using creative and expressive methods with individuals who may find it difficult to communicate their thoughts and emotions verbally, allowing expression to take place beyond words.
Client Groups & Clinical Experience
Subathra works with children, adolescents and adults presenting with a range of emotional, behavioural and psychosocial concerns, including stress, anxiety, low mood, emotional regulation difficulties, anger, grief and loss, relationship concerns, self-esteem, academic pressure and life transitions.
Her experience also includes supporting children and adolescents with behavioural, learning and neurodevelopmental concerns, as well as working with individuals experiencing emotional distress and suicide or self-harm risk. Her work extends beyond individual counselling to family support, psychoeducation, school-based interventions, mental health programmes and corporate wellbeing initiatives. Across her work, she focuses on helping clients develop greater self-awareness, emotional resilience, healthier coping strategies and meaningful personal growth.
